MB's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) meets at least six times each year to monitor the care and use of research animals. The committee reviews procedures, protocols and the facility to insure that all phases meet or exceed the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. At least twice each year the IACUC thoroughly reviews available alternative study methods in an effort to reduce the number of animals used in research studies.
MB Research Laboratories prides itself on pursuing alternative toxicological methods that reduce, refine and replace the use of animals in laboratory research.
MB has pioneered the development and validation of alternative tests with a goal on replacing laboratory animals in toxicological research.
Currently, MB Research offers a wide variety of in vitro and alternative toxicity tests, such as the Local Lymph Node Assay (LLNA), the 3T3 Neutral Red Uptake Phototoxicity Assay (3T3 NRU Phototox), the Bovine Corneal Opacity and Permeability Assay (BCOP), the Chorioallantoic Membrane Vascular Assay (CAMVA), In Vitro International's Corrositex® Kits, MatTek EpiDermTM, EpiOcularTM and MelanoDermTM Assays.
